The International DAWN Award 2009
The Novo Nordisk DAWN Award of €15,000 will go to projects seeking to significantly improve the health and quality of life of children and young people with diabetes and/or their families by addressing one of the five DAWN Youth priority areas.

Increase access to age-appropriate education and psychosocial support

Support parents and families of children and young people with diabetes

Improve support for children with diabetes in schools

Facilitate peer support and networking for young people with diabetes

Help address childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes in young people
The DAWN Award goes to translational projects aimed at implementing validated knowledge and strategies into the real world to maximize benefit for people with diabetes.
Criteria for selection: Candidates will be selected upon their ability to achieve one or more of the above goals taking into account the RE-AIM (Reach, Efficacy, Adoption, Implementation and Long-term Maintenance) goals for maximizing the public health potential of their efforts and utilizing one or more of the strategies outlined below:

Raise awareness and advocacy.

Educate and mobilize people with diabetes and those at risk.

Train healthcare providers and enhance their competencies.

Provide practical tools and systems.

Drive policy and health care systems change.
-
Develop psychological research in diabetes.
Eligibility: Individuals, academic departments, societies, organizations.
Judging: All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of DAWN expert advisory board members and Novo Nordisk. Entries will be marked against the philosophy behind DAWN, the RE-AIM (www.re-aim.org) principles to maximize public health impact and in line with the DAWN Call to Action.
Closing date: Award submissions must be in the hands of the DAWN award panel no later than June 30th 2009.
Communication: The recipient of the DAWN award and grant of €15,000 will be announced at the ISPAD (International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes) congress 2009 alongside the three best awards entries. The winner will be invited to present at the congress. These outstanding examples of best practice will be communicated through international publications to inspire others.
Grant: The grant is intended solely for the use of furthering the reach and impact of the awarded effort and the plans for this will be evaluated.
